Jewellery at the 2010 Emmys: The Trilby Top 5

The Oscars of television took place in Hollywood today, and the red carpet was scattered with many delicious, shiny baubles for Trilby to dream about for weeks to come. Here are our favourites!

1. Jayma Mays in Neil Lane

Best dress/jewellery colour combo of the night has to go to Jayma Mays, of Glee. According to instyle.com, Jayma's stylist Ilaria Urbanati originally tried diamonds "for a more retro vibe but then we fell in love with the Neil Lane necklace and decided to go a little more 'Egyptian Ann-Margret." Now this is why you have a stylist- take note, worrisome young starlets. coughtaylormomsencough

2. Heidi Klum in Lorraine Schwartz

Ok, so Trilby was a little disappointed in Ms. Klum's black Marchesa minidress- or lack there of, (hence why it is absent in our image above)-- but she more than made up for it with this amazing neckpiece. Love it! Wish it had sleeves to make up for lacking dress coverage!

3. Anna Paquin in Neil Lane

Flying the flag for talented-New-Zealanders-that-Australians-adopt-upon-their-reaching-a-decent-level-of-success is Anna Paquin. We have loved watching Anna's recent red carpet appearances, and of course, her Alexander McQueen looks have been most memorable. Here she wears an incredible dress from the newest McQueen collection (under the direction of Sarah Burton). We just adore how Anna has accessorised the ornate gown with various bangles in the same gold. We love stacked bangles on both arms. Winner, Anna.

4. Lea Michele in Lorraine Schwartz

Early opinion seems to be divided over this particular necklace, but Trilby is a fan. While the bottom half of her midnight blue Oscar de la Renta dress was quite voluminous, suggesting a bold bib neckpiece would be too much, there's something about the dark silver colour combined with the dress hue and Lea's gorgeous dark features that we love. The sight of such a bold piece of jewellery practically fills us with Glee!

Yeah... that was... embarrassing.

5. Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Irene Neuwirth

Breaking the trend by not wearing Lorraine Schwartz or Neil Lane, we applaud Julia for her green earring/bracelet combo. This is becoming a common method for adding interest to a black dress (a la Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox etc) and we particularly like the way the green brightens up Julia's Narciso Rodriguez dress. What we don't love is how we feel upon viewing Julia's ridiculous abs through the sheer panel on the dress. She's 49! Colour us emerald with envy.

Star spotlight: Kate Moss

To celebrate Kate Moss' sixth September Issue cover for UK Vogue (not to mention her 30TH overall!) we thought we would take a look at our favourite style star, and rank her top 5 jewellery looks. Here they are:

1. Diamond knuckle ring

For Trilby, there are few better words in the English vocabulary than "diamond" "knuckle" and "ring." We just loved how Kate took her insane Balmain minidress to another level by adding this edgy diamond piece. It's by jeweller Loree Rodkin and will set you back $23,000. Bargain!

2. Vintage-style gold neckpiece

Maybe it's the voluminous blonde extensions, the summer tan or the trademark nonchalant facial expression, but we just love this look. The jewellery is clearly what makes it though, with the multiple rings, cuff and necklace combo taking a simple outfit to an exciting and fashionable place. Kate's neckpiece is clearly the star item, and for an exact match check out UK designer Fiona Paxton's "Surat" chain necklace. Love it!

3. Oversize earrings

While the risk of lobe damage is always a concern with large, heavy earrings, clearly beauty is pain for Kate. And when you look this good, who cares? We adore these vintage earrings that Ms. Moss has worn on multiple occasions. Try the look yourself: see-through dress optional.

4. Coin necklace

A long chain necklace in either silver or gold is a brilliant, versatile jewellery item. Kate wears her Ben Amun coin necklaces regularly, and showcases the ability of such a simple piece of jewellery to transform an outfit. And while Ben Amun's necklaces may cost more than a few coins, they are a great investment that can be worn every day. Cha-ching!

5. The entire Chanel Jade collection... at once!

Kate took jewellery to another level when she attended the Chanel A/W 09 collection showing. Arriving in a simple black outfit, Kate liked what she saw on the runway so much that she scooped up a number of jade bling items and was seen wearing them immediately afterwards. Ah, to be a supermodel. Or just really sneaky. Either way, Kate defied Coco's advice to take one item off before leaving the house, and chose instead to add five! Jealousy, thy name is Trilby.

Designer of the moment: Emily Elizabeth Jewellery

Trilby's love of fun and whimsical jewels is no secret. Who says accessories don't have a sense of humour anyway? Okay, no-one, but we firmly believe they can.

Our favourite jewellery label for all things fanciful and quirky comes out of New York, where designer Emily Elizabeth Kolins creates her highly popular gold plated charms.

According to the designer herself, Kolins aims to create pieces that are feminine and classic, while still modern and fun. She believes that women should be able to express different facets of themselves through their jewellery, and thus divides her line in to three collections: "Sweet and Pretty," "Cool and Kitschy" and "Elegant and Sophisticated."

Needless to say, Emily Elizabeth Jewellery has developed a strong celebrity following, with some of Hollywood's most stylish stars already fans of the line's versatility and subtle elegance.

Best of all, Kolins intentionally designs and prices her jewellery so that women can afford to wear something special and beautiful every day. Gotta love that!

Check out some of our favourite Emily Elizabeth pieces below.

Star spotlight: Lauren Conrad

While Trilby loves bold, oversize and sometimes even OTT jewellery, we can appreciate more subtle pieces too. Former Hills star Lauren Conrad embodies delicate style when it comes to her jewellery, favouring classic investment items over more trend-based pieces. Coupled with her similarly classic taste in clothing, this creates a timeless quality that we love about Lauren's look.

Here are our favourite Lauren Conrad jewellery moments, and our tips on how to match them.

Name ring:

Lauren's signature name ring became a hotly searched for item after she wore it frequently on The Hills. While a custom-designed ring would be fabulous, a more accessible match to Lauren's ring is the Love Knuckle ring by CC Skye, itself a celebrity-favoured piece. And if your name happens to be Love, it's even better!

Layered bangles:

We love Lauren's mixing of interesting jewellery items, which don't overwhelm as they are all of a similar silver shade. Lauren frequently wears One of a Kind's Red Hamsa String bracelet, featuring the Hamsa hand to ward off evil (Spencer Pratt perhaps?), as seen here. To match Lauren's set of silver bangles, we like Jules Smith's Dynasty set which feature a rope-like texture.

The white bangle:

Lauren often combines outfits with accessories of a similar tone. We particularly like the Summery white dress here with a stunning python clutch and her white bangle. For an exact match, check out CC Skye's various Deco Bangles in purple, black and of course, white.

Long necklace:

Lauren has been known to wear a long necklace, in a variety of different styles. Here she wears classic pearls in an unconventional way-- a youthful take on a typical strand of pearls. For a necklace of a similar length, check out Jules Smith's Vintage Curb Chain Necklace, which, at 54 inches long (!) can be worn long like Lauren's, or layered depending on outfit or mood!

Short charm necklace:

Lauren is rarely seen without some sort of short chain necklace on, even when wearing other necklaces. This is the type of necklace you wear constantly, whether it be shopping, showering or filming your reality TV show, as you do. While we're not sure where Lauren got hers, we love Emily Elizabeth Jewellery for fun, whimsical yet classic charm chains. Our picks for Lauren would be the Belle flower and Little Big Statements trio.

Solo bangle:

If you want to go basic, a high-quality single bangle is the perfect example of simplistic glamour. Suitable for day or night, this is the sort of purchase that won't cause the dreaded shopper's regret. To get an exact match, check out Jules Smith's Infinity Lock bangle, which Lauren is wearing here.

What do you think of Lauren's jewellery style? Classic or too basic?
